MIAT Museum, Ghent

Ghent was the hub of the Flanders textile region.  This museum houses a wonderful collection of textile and industrial objects and machinery - and offers a very complete array of conveniences and appliances which represents their evolution in a chronological order. I was delighted to see all the hat blocks there in a workshop.

 Bruges Belfort

83-metres high, constructed in 3 layers - the Belfort's lower two brick sections were built in the 13th century.  The upper octagonal lantern tower of limestone was built in the 1430s.  Atop it all - until 1741 - was a 19-metre wooden spire.

After a very thorough glimpse of Bruges from the perch of the Belfort, we had a canal boat tour and enjoyed walking throughout the city from dusk till dawnSome of my favorite things - the detailed lace in several shop windows and the delicious chocolate.
